David Breckbill
David Breckbill holds degrees in music and musicology from Goshen College (B.A.), The University of Iowa (M.A.), and the University of California at Berkeley (Ph.D.); his area of
scholarly
specialization focuses on the history of musical
performance styles in the age of recordings. He has
presented papers at a variety of regional, national
and international conferences and symposia, and has
contributed to various books, including
Wagner in
Performance, The Wagner
Compendium, and the Cambridge Opera
Handbook on Wagner's The Flying
Dutchman.
Dr. Breckbill has worked as a music critic
for The
Daily Iowan and The Lincoln
Journal-Star, and since 1995 has reviewed
recordings for the BBC Music
Magazine. For the Nebraska Public Radio
Network he has taught a variety of classes and has
written scripts for Composer of the Month
programming.
